The Biomedical Engineering graduate program started in 2000 and immediately became a popular area of study.

Doctoral studies in Biomedical Engineering consist of two years of course work and of original research.

Our doctoral program seeks to develop students' research independence and creativity while strengthening their technical background. The excellent student-to-faculty ratio ensures ongoing interaction between students and faculty.

Research and teaching focuses on a fundamental understanding of biomedical engineering problems.

Areas of specialization reflect the research interests of faculty members. Students participate in research starting in their first year by way of two one-term research projects called "Special Investigations."

Many graduate students do their research in state-of-the-art facilities at the Malone Engineering Center and at the Yale School of Medicine. Course requirements must be met during the first two years in residence.
