SEAS Graduate Leadership Enrichment Program

The SEAS Graduate Leadership Enrichment Program is designed to provide experiences and training beyond the research lab to better prepare Yale Engineering doctoral students for a wide variety of career opportunities. Fellows will have access to internships and educational opportunities during the summer and academic year in four main career tracks: academia, industry, public service, and business.

Acceptance into the SEAS Graduate Leadership Enrichment Program is competitive – currently limited to a maximum of eight fellows annually, distributed across all four tracks. Applicants must be enrolled in the doctoral program in the Yale School of Engineering & Applied Science and have successfully completed their first year of doctoral study. Selection is based on academic performance, letters of recommendation, ability to express a clear and compelling interest or motivation in pursing this opportunity, and availability of internships. Participation should not interfere with regular coursework or research responsibilities, and fellows must maintain acceptable progress toward degree.

Track Descriptions:
Academic Track: This track focuses on the competencies and experiences that form the basis for becoming a successful professor and researcher. Fellows in this track will benefit from internship and educational opportunities that allow them to hone skills in outreach, teaching, and research.

Industry Track: Fellows in this track will participate in internships that have an engineering focus or relevance in order to experience the practical application of their engineering education and training and to gain an understanding of the business processes related to developing products.

Policy & Public Service Track: This track is designed for students interested in policy, law, and/or careers in science education and outreach. Fellows within this track will benefit from internship opportunities at Yale, within government, non-governmental organizations, and non-profit organizations, where they may apply their science and engineering education to develop policies and create programs that will benefit society at large. They may also take relevant Yale courses in law, policy and management.

Business Track: Fellows in this track have the opportunity to participate in entrepreneurial activities and internships at Yale, as well as other institutions and businesses. Fellows may also gain access to relevant Yale courses in business development, management, and finance.
